Wood Selection

We maintain one of the largest selections of stock blanks in American Black walnut, Turkish walnut and English walnut.  As standard, Christian Hunter’s are fitted with specially selected 2x American Black walnut grade stocks.  However, for those looking for something even more special, wood upgrades are available from our specially laid out and selected walnut blanks in 3x, 4x and exhibition grades.

Standard 2X – Some colour a small amount of figure. A structurally perfect stock.

3X – More colour than the standard, varying figure. May or may not be symmetrical from side to side. A very sound stock.

4X – Highly figured, may or may not be symmetrical from side to side. A slightly smaller feather or less figure than an exhibition.

Very symmetrical, extremely highly figured wood. The best old growth Black American Walnut. Lots of colour and contrast.

Stock Design

The Christian Hunter can be crafted with either a Pistol grip, Prince of Wales grip or Straight Hand grip to suit your requirements.   Our standard stock dimensions are: 14¼ or 14¾ x 1 3/8 x 2½.  However, to customise your gun we can build your stock with your own personal dimensions (More about this in Fitting).  You can also choose between a large and thick fluted Sporting forend or a smaller, rounded Game style forend

Every stock is checkered with the Multi Point classic pattern at 24 lines per inch. This can be finished Sharp, or Flat Filed to suit your preferences.  Our stocks also come with a “Stock Weight Balancing” system so that owners can change the balance of their gun themselves. This weights system has 2x 2¼oz weights that move on a threaded rod within the stock, which allows the shooter to finely balance the gun to their requirements.

Wood finish. Oil is applied to the stocks using our exclusive method which infuses it into the wood. The finish is very deep and not just on the surface like virtually every other gun. This allows you to remove scratches and polish the wood to its origthe wood to its original luster. Another advantage to this system is that the wood is coated on every possible surface inside and out on both forend and stock, making it impervious to the elements and moisture. This method creates a satin finish, but we do offer a high gloss oil finish option should you wish.

Testimonials

  • “I couldn't be happier with my Christian Hunter! I just finished 3 days driven shooting in the West Country, putting about 300 cartridges  through each They handled like a dream! To add to that  I also received a lot of compliments from the rest of the team about their looks”
  • "Magnificent true scaled frame over and unders. I don't think a better gun can be had for any amount of money. The fit and finish of these guns have been beyond compare. This over and under is the only small frame, low profile, full side lock over and under that I currently shoot that has withstood the test of time in the field without a hitch." - R.H.
